indieBOOM

Our GOAL at indieBOOM is simple. We want to provide the very BEST of indie music to the worldwide Internet Community.

What is "Indie Music"?
Indie music (or Independent music) is basically defined as music from artists who are not signed to a "Major Label". A Major Label is any member of the RIAA - The Recording Industry Association of America. For example, EMI, Sony, Capitol, etc.

Indie Music has also come to represent a culture of sorts. There are as many definitions of this indie culture as there are people who enjoy being a part of it. However, there is one defining quality among indie music fans - we LOVE music, and we don't want to leave it to the executives from the various RIAA labels to tell us what "good music" is.

Indie artists, at least many of them, hope to one day be signed to a major label, and many of them will. But until then, it is up to organizations like indieBOOM to give this music a chance to be heard by as many people as we can.

Format
Our format is much like your traditional air radio stations. We have LIVE DJ's who "spin" tunes 24/7/365. indieBOOM specializes in Rock music - but that is a rather broad category. You might hear tunes that you consider to be more "country", "folk", "blues", or "jazz" than rock, but our artists are very talented and their tunes often stray into other genres, and we love it!

indieBOOM FAQ

  • Do I have to pay to listen? Nope... it's free. Enjoy.
  • What is streaming audio? How does it work? Is it safe? When you connect to the indieBOOM stream using WinAmp or Windows Media Player (see how to listen to indieBOOM below), you connect directly to our servers. The audio is not "downloaded" in the traditional sense, rather it is fed through a "stream" to your computer. Your player will connect up to the stream, sync in, and begin playing the music. There is NO information sent from your computer to the server, nor are there any files that are saved to your computer. In other words, it is absolutely safe to listen to streams on your computer from indieBOOM.
  • How's the sound quality of your stream? We broadcast at 96kbs on the "High" stream. The de facto standard for MP3 files is 128kbs. Therefore, the sound quality from indieBOOM is AMAZING. You need a really good ear to hear the difference between 96 and 128kbs. Many Internet stations broadcast between 48 and 64kbs. Try listening to one of those, then tune into indieBOOM. The difference is clear. indieBOOM rocks! We have the ability to broadcast at 128kbs, but we find that many of our listeners' systems begin to "buff" at that rate. Buffing is when the music frequently stops and starts because the receiving system can't keep up at that high of a rate. It's really annoying. So, we believe the perfect comprimise is 96kps. We hope you agree.
  • How do I listen to indieBOOM? It's very simple. Click on one of the four options on the indieBOOM home page. If you have High Speed (or broadband) Internet, click on either MP3 (WinAmp) High or Windows Media High. If you do not know what WinAmp is, click on Windows Media. If you are on dialup, select one of the "Low" options.
  • What is WinAmp? WinAmp is a very nice and popular MP3/streaming audio player from Nullsoft. indieBOOM recommends WinAmp. You can learn more here: http://www.winamp.com
  • How do I know what's playing? How do I learn more about an artist I hear? There are active "Now Playing" screens on both the indieBOOM home page and in the Chatroom. The information there is current and often provides a direct link to the artist's website. Also, you can click on Artists Links from most any page on the indieBOOM Website and instantly see an artist's pic, where they're from, and usually some bio information. There too, are links to their website and in many cases, the artist's email address.
  • Can I download the tunes from indieBOOM or its stream? No. The material we stream is copyrighted by the artists who have agreed to have their music played on indieBOOM. Any copying of this material is a violation of law. If you like a particular song or artist, simply go to the Artists Links and visit the artist's website. There you can learn everything you will need to know about how to buy a CD, or even in some cases, where their tunes are available on a pay-per-song basis. Some artists allow free downloads from their site. We do not. Please visit the artist's website for more info.
  • Does any of the music you play contain offensive material? Some music played on indeBOOM contains language that may be considered offensive to some. We recommend that you consider this a "PG-13" station.
  • Do you pay your artists for airplay? No. Our artists want as much airplay as possible, and we want as much good music as possible. And, of course, we do NOT charge artists for airplay. Simply speaking, it's a mutually beneficial arrangement.
  • I am an independent artist, how do I submit my music? It's very simple, click on the Submit Your Music link on the home page. There is a simple form to fill out. You agree that you have full rights to the music, that you are over 18, and that you will allow us to play your music "on air".
  • DJ'ing sounds like fun. How can I become a DJ for indieBOOM? If you think you have what it takes to be part of the indieBOOM team, we'd LOVE to talk to you. Click HERE to fill out the indieBOOM DJ application.
